A Tiny Little Ice World

I loved magnifying this tiny little ice world that exists in my own backyard. Millions of individual crystals that are so intricate, so ornate, and yet disappear in an instant.

I went outside carefully searching through snow for individual crystals with a twig and laid out the individual flakes on either a black scarf or a piece of plexiglass (that is very scratched up from my watercoloring days). Once I found an icy scene I liked, I ran in the house & dragged my camera outside (cameras don't like the cold anymore then I do). My camera was mounted to a tripod with a 100mm macro lens on it. I strained to focus in on each little scene. Here are some images I captured of this tiny, miraculous ice world. Are they my best photographic work? Perhpas not. But they sure were a lot of fun to capture and this more about the process of making art for me. And to be honest, I don't think I will ever look at a pile of snow in the same way. Operation: Tiny Little Ice World, was a success!
